Grass Roots Jr. Golf Foundation is the 501c3 tax-exempt charity, approved by The World Golf Foundation (the parent charity of First Tee National Organization) (www.thefirsttee.org) to operate as a local chapter licensed as The First Tee of North Puget Sound (TFTNPS). 

 

 

The First Tee students progress through 6 certification class levels (TARGET, PAR Ready, Par,  BIRDIE, EAGLE, ACE) combining golf skill, golf knowledge, etiquette, and The First Tee Life Skills Curriculum.  

Students ages 7 & 8  enjoy a modified curriculum level called TARGET class. 

 

Students ages 9 start at the Par Ready Level class.

 

Students 10 years old in the calendar year of the class they are taking may begin the Par Level

 

Students certify at each level through a combination of golf skill, written testing, and the demonstration of Life Skill understanding. Classes meet the same day each week during a sesson.  

 

There are Spring, Summer,  and Fall sessions.  Classes within a session meet either once, or, twice per week.  

 

A "Pre-Season" progam is available for free, for those that enroll in a class session before March 1.

 

The First Tee annual membership is $25 per family. The tuition for each class in a season session is $100 per student. Scholarships are available to families with need for tuition.  Students enrolled and active in the Birdie Level classes and higher enjoy reduced rates on practice balls and junior rounds at local affiliate courses. 

 

TFTNPS also offers 4 day Golf Camps for $125 per student. Scholarships for camps are available up to a 50%. Camps include a total of 8 hours of instruction on putting, pitching, full swing and ettiquette over the first 3 days. The last day of the program includes golfing at a local course.   

 

Completion of a Golf Camp, or a Personal Golf Assessment is recommended but not required, before registration into The First Tee Life Skills Program.

 

Personal lessons are available by appointment with Certified First Tee Coaches.  An hourly rate donation to The First Tee is suggested.

1. When do The First Tee classes occur?

The First Tee offers classes in Spring, Summer and Fall sessions. CLICK HERE to view the 2012 Calendar.  

 

2. Where are The First Tee programs offered? 
Classes and camps are conducted at Affiliate Golf Sites throughout the region.  Check the calendar page for the updated site list. 


3. How much does it cost?
There is a $25 annual membership fee per family. Tuition is $100 per camp or class session. There are no additional costs for classes, equipment, and activities directly related to the program. This fee may be reduced through scholarship help in the case of financial need.

4. How do I register?

5. How do I sign up for classes?
Find the session, location, and time of the class you desire on the CALENDAR page. Check available space on the SCHEDULE & ROSTER page. Download a registration form and mail in with payment, or, call the number above to use a credit card.  Once your registration is received, our confimation will be your student's first name posted on the SCHEDULE & ROSTER  page.


6. What are the TFTNPS classes like?

Classes will be taught in groups of no more than 12 students with a student:coach ratio of no more than 6:1. Classes are on the same day each week at the same location. Classes will last 2 hours and will include all Core Lessons, Rules & Etiquette, Manners and Playing. Certification will be 'progressive' with Golf Skills tests and Life Skills assessments taking place each week during the classes. Pass a written test at sessions end and you could be on your way to the next level in The First Tee Life Skills Experience.

7. Who are the coaches?

Lead coaches are adults that have either completed The First Tee National training program (3 years), or, have at least 3 years experience as assistant coaches with our local chapter.  All coaches receive a background check through the Washington State Patrol prior to coaching.



8. What age and ability level does the program include?

Children ages 9-18 years may participate in the certification levels. We also have fun, introductory classes for 7 & 8 year olds called TARGET. Students will work on a particular class level and be assessed on skills and knowledge from the beginning level called PLAYer. Students then move into Par Level, Birdie level and Eagle level. 


9. How long does it take to complete the entire program?

Every student is unique. Students are encouraged to participate at whatever pace works best for them. This approach provides the highest levels of enjoyment for all.

 
10. What are the other benefits of The First Tee Experience?

Once enrolled in the Birdie Level, students may play at local "Affiliate Courses".  Some restrictions may apply. We will offer incentives for various accomplishments within the program and periodic activities such as parties and tournaments.  The National network of The First Tee also provide student opportunities including advanced training, play in national events, college scholarships, etc.
