Student Opportunities
Through the power of its national network, The First Tee has developed unique and exciting opportunities for its member participants. Below is a quick summary:
The First Tee Life Skills Experience
The First Tee classes uniquely integrate golf skills with a world-respected curriculum. This experience is the heart of The First Tee, delivered by local chapters throughout the country.
The First Tee Local competitions and Regional championships
Local chapters offer The First Tee member students the chance to compete with other members based on skill, experience, and level within The First Tee Life Skills curriculum.
The First Tee Assistant Coach
Participants that have completed the Life Skills classes are encouraged to complete training to become assistant coaches for younger participants.
A /B Honor Roll
All participants may receive a certificate when they have earned all A’s or B’s bi-annually.
PACE
The First Tee PACE (Providing Assistance for Careers and Education) Resource Center was created to equip eligible participants (ages 13-18) and their parents with information and resources to learn more about applying for college, scholarships, and explore careers.
Life Skills & Leadership Academy
Each summer, selected participants of The First Tee attend the Life Skills and Leadership Academy, where they play championship golf, participate in life skills activities and career exploration, experience dorm living and meet a wide variety of young people from around the world. The overall purpose of the Academy is to provide participants with valuable character education and leadership instruction.
PLAYer Advanced Academy
This Academy is intended for advanced players within the network pursuing collegiate golf. 20-25 elite participants from The First Tee Chapters will be selected to attend. Participants learn how to play at the highest levels while balancing academics and personal skills.
The First Tee Scholars
The Scholars Program’s focus is to identify and designate participants from a scholarly and leadership perspective while adding value to their personal resume for a variety of future career and college experiences. Several colleges across the nation have developed generous scholarships for The First Tee Scholars whether or not they play college golf.
Nature Valley The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach
Each Labor Day weekend, The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach presented by Nature Valley showcases the talent and character of young people active in The First Tee worldwide. An official Champions Tour event; one junior is paired with a Champions Tour pro and two amateurs. 78 junior spots are awarded to junior golfers ages 14 – 18.
RBS Achievers of the Year
Ten participants from the network will be selected as RBS Achievers of the Year semifinalists. Two of the 10 winners will be named finalists and received a $10,000 award for ongoing education. Each of the eight semifinalists will receive a $2,000 award. The RBS Achievers of the Year Awards includes a trip for all 10 semifinalists to attend the US Open.
Toro / Disney Future Leaders Forum
This innovative educational program is available for up to 50 high school students. It includes a three-day immersion in the sport, business and science of golf, and provides character education to help prepare our participants to be tomorrow’s leaders. During the Toro Future Leaders Forum, participants will attend learning sessions on customer service from The Disney Institute, agronomy, event management and career exploration.
Coca Cola America’s Future Scholarships
Participants throughout the network entering their senior year of high school are eligible. Each of the five semi-finalists are chosen based on grades, involvement in their Chapter and community, and an essay. Scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
Hank Haney IJGA and Other discounted programs
A maximum of 50 participants are invited to the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy (IJGA) in Hilton Head Island, at a discount of $700. Other similar discounted programs are developed throughout the network on an ongoing basis.
